  • Anxiety

  • Anxiety is a normal and natural emotion. At the point, that a person often feels elevated levels of anxiety, this might indicate a medical disorder. Included in the category of anxiety disorders are:  overly nervous reactions, irrational fear, apprehension, excessive crying, and constant worry. These form a separate category of mental health diagnoses.  Disorders such as these, either separately or in combination, affect how a person perceives a situation and processes emotions. These disorders may also affect how the person behaves, and in addition result in physical symptoms. In some situations, anxiety might be barely noticeable, an uneasy feeling. In contrast, severe anxiety may affect the person’s ability to cope with daily living.  Anxiety disorders affect as many as 40 million people in the United States. Anxiety disorders are the most common group of mental illnesses in our country. At the present time, only about a third of people with a diagnosed anxiety disorder receive treatment.
