  • Gene McConnachie, PhD

    Gene, a Licensed Psychologist (#PY1806), has provided consultations and therapy for individuals, families and other caregivers since 1978. Mid-career, he returned to pursue his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1993), with concentrations in Applied Child and Family Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis/Positive Behavior Support (PBS).  Gene completed his residency training for his Ph.D. at the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington Medical School.  Gene has worked as a consultant, trainer, author, and therapist for parents and other caregivers specializing in positive solutions to child and adult behavioral challenges.  He practices a Family-Centered approach that believes in a collaborative partnership with parents/caregivers, assisting them to define and achieve their vision for family harmony, guiding them in positive behavioral strategies and coaching parents in how to utilize the child's strengths and motivations to promote positive behaviors and growth and reduce child behavior problems and meet achieve their vision.  He also has expertise in autism and developmental disabilities including Asperger's Syndrome, and those dually diagnosed with mental health problems and developmental disabilities. Gene worked for the Developmental Disabilities Administration for over 20 years. He continues to be active in the Positive Behavior Support community as a former member of the Board of Directors of the International Association for PBS, and in the leadership team of the Home and Community PBS network.
